HAND Faculty and Students Present the DexKit Soft Travel HAND to Congressional Team Members

HAND faculty member Nancy Pollard and HAND students Jonathan King and Ethan Zuo were recently invited to demo the DexKit Soft Travel Hand at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) to participate in a Congressional tour held at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, MD. Demonstrations were on full display for more than 60 congressional staffers, NIH officials and leaders representing more than 30 U.S. states and territories. The demonstration showed the possibilities for soft robot hands and the future of hands-on healthcare; such as grasping a cloth for bathing, handling a medicine bottle, and operating hemostats. The hand operated flawlessly for six tour groups, two hours of demos, and many handshakes.

“We are thrilled to have had this opportunity to get the word out about exciting opportunities with soft robot hands and healthcare robotics”, says Prof. Nancy Pollard, Carnegie Mellon University.
